With a constantly rising number of countries reforming laws on the legalization of Cannabis, we shall give some attention to it`s main psychoactive component: Tetrahydrocannabino<\/em>l, <\/strong>commonly referred to as THC. The chemical is found in the leaves and flowering shoots of the Marijuana plant and was first discovered and isolated in 1964. That surely refers strictly to the determination of the substance as such, as Cannabis for medical purposes already evolved 2800 BC<\/strong> on the eastern Tibetan Plateau. But let’s keep putting all eyes on THC. Smoked, it makes its way into the\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 bloodstream and starts its journey to the brain where it affects the parts that are linked to coordination, movement, thinking, memory and pleasure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since THC officially can claim the title lifestyle product, various ways of consuming have been improving along. Such as gummies<\/strong>, coming in the look of just candy, they are the solution for those who want to avoid inhaling smoke or mess around with tincture. Which is yet another option to enjoy marijuana. More common though, is using oil <\/strong>that can simply be put in a cartridge or bought in ready made pens<\/strong>. And for the chefs under us: Cooking with oil surely is an entertaining alternative but, just as all options, it needs attention to that one detail called dosage. And that all could also be referred to when talking about CBD. So is there a difference even? Oh yes! There is. And as it is the most important thing, to keep asking questions: Let’s get into answering some of them.<\/p>\n

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THC AND CBD?<\/h2>\n

Both can be found in hemp and marijuana as extracted molecules from cannabis<\/strong>, known as cannabinoids<\/strong>, but interacting with different receptors, they have a remarkably different effect on the human brain. Whilst one, THC, causes a high, CBD does just not give that sensation. Science to here could not reveal the reason for the various reactions, but it is believed they bind with the receptors in distinct ways.<\/p>\n

CBD is won from hemp mainly<\/strong>, a specific version of the Cannabis sativa plant. Simply put, the plants both substances, THC and CBD, come from are the same species, but hemp plants contain less THC<\/strong>. As per December 2021, the EU adopted the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), with the maximum THC level on the field restored to 0.3 %<\/strong>. That considered, each country individually defines the percentage of the THC concentration that is base, to law judging between legal and illegal when talking of CBD and THC. Whilst in Germany it is 0.2 percent, Italy allows for 0.5% and Switzerland for 1.0 %.<\/p>\n

On the principle of THC allowance, CBD is legally accessible in far more countries<\/strong> and by now the range of products available within the world of health and wellbeing has improved enormously. You might have heard that before: CBD is also the mission which defines Tom Hemp`s<\/strong> and foundation to our selection of goods. But for now, let’s keep focussing on the facts of THC.<\/p>\n

WHY THE HIGH?<\/h2>\n

Referring to the fact of cannabinoids binding with receptors in our body, entering the brain the molecules spread into the synapses and activate certain neurons. The chemical structure<\/strong> of THC is similar to the brain chemical anandamide<\/em><\/strong>. This is the reason for the body to recognize THC which leads to interacting with our brain communication. It is like interrupting a message flow between nerves and creating the so-called \u201chigh\u201d.<\/p>\n

HOW IS THC MADE?<\/h2>\n

The buds of mostly the female marijuana plant are known to have the highest concentration of THC. And here is how we get to the substance to use it in the most known way: smoking. It all starts with a little seed. It is to manage an harmony of several conditions such as water, light, air, and temperature that leads to growing a healthy plant from which the flowers, or buds, are harvested.<\/p>\n

When time has done its job, there is no such thing as a rule on how to harvest the best way. But key to all is trimming and that is done in several ways, with one goal: To remove all the parts that shall not be used in further process and to harm the delicate trichomes<\/em><\/strong> as little as possible. Who are those guys? The hairy parts of a plant that contain what is wanted: THC.<\/p>\n

After the cutting edge part, it is for the buds to dry. And to finalize the process, it needs the cure. It is the part that needs the most monitoring with the buds sitting in containers allowing for them to become the final product to be used. Once done so, will it be detectable?<\/p>\n

HOW LONG IS CANNABIS DETECTABLE?<\/h2>\n

With certain factors influencing the amount of time THC is detectable in a human body<\/strong>, such as weight, what mainly makes the difference is the amount and consistency of its usage. Based on a research in 2017, a single smoke of weed\u00a0 makes up for about 3 days. Consuming several times a week up to four, it was detectable up to 7 days. Regularity above that, will make tests approve the substance for around 30 days.<\/p>\n

EFFECTS<\/h2>\n

Just as we are all different, by being the same, so is the effect of marijuana<\/strong>. Depending on numerous factors such as the state of mind, environment and amount<\/strong>, the result of consuming cannabis can lead to the most diverse experiences. That said, the feeling referred to more than any is relaxation and euphoria<\/strong>. By senses being stimulated, seeing brighter colors or giggly laughing<\/strong> can surely be a consequence of THC. But even with the reaction to the substance mostly being linked to some form of joy, there sure is to be considered that there is the possibility some realize a negative reaction and intoxication can be linked to\u00a0 coughing fits, anxiety, and paranoia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The improving results, in a medical reference<\/strong>, by now can hardly be denied. Over years THC was used for therapeutic treatments with positively affecting conditions such as chronic pain, fighting cancer, treating depression and anxiety. <\/strong>Even though further research is needed and studies yet need to prove the healing factors caused through the medical use of THC, several scientific reports have shown the relief of symptoms. Based on those facts, the legalization should not even be any longer a question, but a movement towards a regulated distribution and consumption of THC.<\/p>\n

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF LEGALITY OF THC?<\/h2>\n

Tetrahydrocannabinol in its \u201chigh\u201d making form has been legalized in more than 30 countries <\/strong>worldwide. On a side note: 40 when considering the legalization of medical usage.\u00a0 Still, the status of legality remains being treated as a drug under the law in most areas of the world<\/a><\/p>\n

Uruguay being the first country decriminalizing the substance, surely has set an example on what keeps being a discussion around the globe. So it is a complex topic with the need to look at each country individually. Within the EU, the current situation allows for consideration that the legalization will be more than just a manifestation in several political agendas. Naming Germany, where the process currently is under construction, let’s say\u2026 But with surely the aim to find a decriminalized solution that allows for the control of distribution and user group regulations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It clearly keeps being a major topic on our agenda: To raise awareness to THC and its acceptance within society<\/strong>. Cause as you know: CBD is our mission\u2026 and beyond.<\/p>\n
