Growing cannabis on your balcony can be an attractive alternative to indoor or garden growing for a number of reasons. For one, you may live in a country where growing cannabis is legal, or your balcony may be protected from the prying eyes of neighbours. Balconies are usually better protected from the weather conditions than gardens or other outdoor spaces. Compared to indoor growing, balcony growing offers the advantage of natural sunlight and rainwater, and the ventilation issue also takes care of itself. But is balcony cultivation generally the best option? Or for whom exactly is it the best option?<\/span><\/p>\n

WHY GROW CANNABIS ON THE BALCONY?<\/b><\/p>\n

Growing cannabis on the balcony can be an attractive option for a number of reasons:<\/span><\/p>\n

Cost-effectiveness: <\/b>Growing cannabis on a balcony is generally more cost-effective than indoor growing as there is no need for expensive equipment such as lights, ventilation systems or irrigation systems, and natural sunlight and rainwater can be utilised to feed the plants, reducing costs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Space saving:<\/b> Not everyone has a garden, but they do have a balcony. Balcony cultivation makes it possible to grow hemp plants with limited space without taking up too much room.<\/span><\/p>\n

Natural resource utilisation:<\/b> Natural sunlight can be used on the balcony, which benefits the plants and promotes their development. In addition, rain is a natural source of irrigation that does not incur any additional costs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Easy ventilation:<\/b> Balconies are usually well ventilated, which is important for the growth of healthy plants. In contrast to indoor cultivation, there is no need to worry about ventilation systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Healthy plants: <\/b>Hemp plants grown outdoors tend to be more robust and resistant to pests and diseases than those grown indoors. Balcony cultivation can therefore lead to healthy and resistant plants.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHICH PLANTS ARE SUITABLE FOR GROWING CANNABIS ON THE BALCONY?<\/b><\/p>\n

Autoflowering varieties <\/span><\/a>are best suited for growing cannabis on the balcony. These plants are less dependent on the weather than other varieties and can tolerate temperature fluctuations and a colder climate. They are also usually smaller than other varieties and can therefore be grown more discreetly on the balcony.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN GROWING ON THE BALCONY?<\/b><\/p>\n

In many countries where cannabis is legalised, there are clear requirements for cultivation. In Germany, for example, this also means that the plants must not be accessible to children or minors and must be protected against theft. Visibility must also be restricted so that the cannabis plant is protected from the eyes of outsiders.<\/span><\/p>\n

When growing cannabis on the balcony, it is also important to choose the right pot size and grow soil. The cannabis plant should be protected from heavy rain, storms and wind while still receiving sufficient sunlight. Sunlight: <\/b>Uninterrupted sunlight for at least 5-6 hours per day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Protection from wind and weather: <\/b>Appropriate measures to protect the plants from strong wind, rain and extreme weather conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ventilation: <\/b>Natural ventilation of the growing location to ensure good air circulation and reduce the risk of mould growth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Odour control:<\/b> Measures to minimise the characteristic cannabis odour, as activated carbon filters cannot usually be used on the balcony.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additional accessories: <\/b>Pot stand, watering can or hose for irrigation, gloves for gardening, suitable tools for pruning and caring for the plants.<\/span><\/p>\n
