First things first, let’s start by a little recap of the previous posts:
So Tom is our fictional cool uncle (created by Cristian, founder of Tom Hemps) who traveled the world, has thousands of adventures to tell, that works with medicinal herbs and who would rather see you immerse yourself in essential oils and all things natural instead of seeing you gulp a handful of pain killers. Therefore, Tom Hemps was created with the intent to become a resource center and a coffee shop that offers a wide variety of CBD products and that showcases all the environmental and health benefits it holds.
Full disclosure, compared to Daniel, I have not had much experience with CBD thus I have decided to make this a public journey and share my experiences with you. However, I must admit I have always been interested in products that are more natural and healthier for my wellbeing and so should you!
Let’s start by understanding how and when this remarkable substance was discovered. In 1963, Raphael Mechoulam, an Israeli organic chemist and professor of Medical Chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, isolated CBD from cannabis at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Mechoulam also synthesised THC and CBD, as well as many other cannabinoids. He is known as the grandfather of cannabinoid research. In fact, till today he still conducts researches on CBD at the multidisciplinary center for cannabinoid research.
More people than ever before are choosing CBD to provide natural relief for their medical conditions and are changing their opinions about Cannabis. They seek alternatives to pharmaceuticals that tend to have harsh side effects. For new users, like me, understanding what it is and, more importantly, how it works can be a little puzzling.
Here are some basic facts to keep in mind:
- CBD is cannabidiol and a compound found in the resinous flower of Cannabis sativa plant
- CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil.
- It is a safe, non-addictive substance
- CBD is not psychoactive
- CBD does not make you feel “stoned” or intoxicated
- CBD and THC come from the same plant but act on different receptors in the body and brain
- CBD can actually lessen or neutralise the psychoactive effects of THC
Wow! That’s a lot of information to stomach… let’s call it quits for now.

Stick around peeps!
