Hemp cultivation
Essentially, hemp is cultivated to achieve three products: hemp fibres, hemp seeds and CBD. Hemp fibres are ideal to produce clothing and ropes. Thanks to their natural richness in omega-3 and 6, hemp seeds have become a real superfood. This makes hemp cultivation a lucrative business.
And last but not least, the extraction of CBD (cannabidiol) is what we’re focussing on. The substance from the cannabis plant has a wide range of applications, and, in contrast to THC, is not psychoactive. Hemp cultivation takes place under strict regulations. Although industrial hemp isn’t a narcotic, this breed of hemp does fall under narcotics laws and regulations.
Currently, 58 types with a THC content of less than 0,2% are allowed to be grown, and only by farmers in tune with the new agricultural scheme (landwirtschaftliche Sozialversicherung). Finally, Germany’s office for Agriculture and Food (Bundesanstalt für Landwirte und Ernährung (BLE)) must be informed of the hemp cultivation taking place.
They are in charge of checking the THC contents of these industrial plants. When growing industrial hemp, each year new seeds need to be planted, as otherwise the plants might have naturally increased their THC contents since the previous generation. Tom Hemp’s only use EU-certified industrial hemp for their beloved CBD products.
The hemp cultivation, its production and processing are strictly controlled. Discover Tom Hemp’s varied range of CBD goods in our online shop today!
