April showers not only bring spring-like temperatures and frolics, but also a significant change in German cannabis policy. With the recent partial legalization of cannabis in Germany, allowing home cultivation, the start of spring this year will be a special experience for many. It’s as if nature itself has given a sign, because just at the right time, when the seedlings are about to be planted, the law comes into force, paving the way for the legal cultivation of three female plants. Coincidence, fate, whatever the case, nature and legislation seem to be in absolute harmony and the only thing that remains to be questioned is: how do I grow cannabis? Our very, very¹³ compact cannabis grow guide should help you find the answer…
WHICH CANNABIS SEEDS TO CHOOSE FOR HOME GROWING ?
The first step for aspiring cannabis growers is to choose quality cannabis seeds. With Feminized Seeds, you are choosing to grow on the “safe side” of life. Cannabis plants are divided into sexes: male and female. Interestingly, however, it is only the female form of the Cannabis sativa plant that contains enough THC to produce the famous “high”. Autoflowering seeds are a good choice for beginners, as they are robust and easy to care for and automatically enter the flowering phase without any change in light exposure. For experienced growers, we also recommend Regular Seeds, which can develop into either males or females, but guarantee perfect genetics every time and everywhere.
EFFECTS OF CANNABIS
And then there is the question of the desired effect of cannabis consumption. What would you like? A relaxing effect for the evening or more stimulating and motivating? The distinction between indica, sativa and hybrid strains can help. Indica strains tend to have a relaxing and calming effect, while sativa strains often have an invigorating and euphoric effect. Hybrids offer a mixture of both.
THC AND CBD CONTENT OF CANNABIS
Another important factor is the THC and CBD content of the strain. Depending on your personal needs and preferences, you should therefore choose according to the THC content of the cannabis seed.
But of course the genetics of the cannabis plants, seed bank, price and experience reports also play a role in the decision. However, as this is called a very short guide, it will remain a separate blog post in the next section. For now: Ultimately, the best way to find the right strain of weed is often through experimentation and trying out different options.
HOW DO I GROW CANNABIS CUTTINGS?
The germination process is crucial to the success of growth. Seedlings should germinate in damp kitchen paper, with a drop of lemon juice added to the water to balance the pH. After germination, the seeds should be carefully planted in peat pots or pots to encourage growth.
WHERE DO I GROW CANNABIS PLANTS?
The decisive factor here is the environment in which the plants are to be grown. Whether growing cannabis indoors or outdoors, it is important to have the necessary space available for the plant to develop optimally. Which cannabis strains are tall? Sativa dominant cannabis strains in particular are known to grow tall, such as Amnesia Haze or Moby Dick. Small cannabis plants, on the other hand, are Critical Kush, Blueberry Cheese or Sour Diesel. Small cannabis varieties are therefore particularly suitable for growing on balconies, where the plants should be discreet. Grow tents for indoor cultivation are available with areas from 60 cm to 125 cm and larger, so if you have enough space in your home for a grow box, you are certainly well served.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIMAL CONDITIONS FOR GROWING CANNABIS PLANTS?
Growing cannabis requires certain conditions in order to achieve optimal results. Sufficient sunlight, regular watering and avoiding over-fertilization are crucial for healthy plant growth. A pH-neutral soil and regular checks for pests also help to avoid problems.
HARVESTING CANNABIS FLOWERS
Harvest time is the highlight of any Grow Garden and should be approached with particular care. When growing on a balcony, cannabis plants can usually be harvested between September and November, depending on the strain and the climatic conditions of the region. The exact timing can vary, as it depends on factors such as the plant’s flowering time and the beginning of fall, when the days get shorter. As a general rule, most outdoor cannabis plants begin to flower towards the end of summer or beginning of fall and can then be harvested within about 8 to 12 weeks after flowering begins. It is important to check the maturity of the trichomes on the flowers to determine the optimal harvest time. Once carefully harvested, the marijuana flowers are hung up to dry using dry nets, for example. After drying, the flowers can be stored and matured in specially designed bags to develop the full flavor and potency of the cannabis.
CANNABIS CULTIVATION – MISSION POSSIBLE
From distinguishing between male and female plants to fighting off unwanted visitors such as snails and possibly nosy neighbors, the path to home-grown weed is certainly not a boring one. The very own ganja garden in the allotment garden may still have to wait, as the federation of allotment gardeners prohibits cultivation there, but it’s good that this doesn’t stop you from turning your balcony or guest room into a grow garden and keeping your watering cans and green fingers glowing with the perfect choice of seeds.
