For several years now, more and more foods are gaining “superfood status.” From tropical plants like avocados to European staples like kale, there are many to choose from. With all this choice, it’s easy to get confused or suspicious. What is a superfood, what can it do, and how much can I really rely on it? Don’t worry, just ask your friends at Tom Hemp’s! 😉
Generally speaking, the term superfood is a label given to foods that have especially high concentrations of vitamins and other nutrients. Because of this, they can have a positive effect on your health. Of course, some people tend to overestimate this effect a little, but from a nutritional science point of view superfoods can indeed have a positive effect on the body’s health. These foods also include hemp products, such as hemp seeds and hemp protein.
Hemp seeds contain a lot of vitamins and different omega fatty acids. Hemp protein provides the body with these nutrients, even when less of it is ingested than hemp seeds. In particular, B vitamins are found in the hemp plant, which makes it especially appealing to vegans and vegetarians, as these vitamins tend to be more easily found in animal products. Vitamin B2, for example, is important for muscle gain and a healthy nervous system.
Athletes and exercise-fans who supplement their nutrition with protein powder can discover hemp for themselves too: the higher protein percentage as well as naturally occurring amino acids make hemp protein powder a natural, superfood alternative to other protein powders.
Tom Hemp’s hemp seeds are peeled, making them even more easily digestible. They make a great ingredient in smoothies or oatmeal, or as a topping on granola or salads. Hemp protein can also be used in juices or fitness shakes, as well as in baked goods like pancakes, homemade pasta or bread. As you can see, hemp is easy to use in lots of different ways. We told you it’s a superfood!
